The Weka
Special Facts: A weka is a flightles Bird. They are very feathery. Wekas run qiute fast with it's neck outstretched. Wekas are related to the pukeko, takahe,a spottless crake and a banded rail. It cannot fly at all. Wekas also can live over 15 years.
Food A weka eats rats, small birds, lizards, worms, snails, insects. seeds and fruit.
Size: Wekas like me are the size of a kiwi but we are just a bit taller.
Where we live: We are mostly found in the South Island in forests in New Zealand. It nests in a short burrow, in hollow trees and hidden under the plants.
Predators: Wekas predators are ferrets, stoats, cats,and dogs and us humans.
Looks: Wekas nearly look like a duck or a kiwi but a weka has a short beak and orange legs and feet.
